2012.8: Super Stardust Delta

Finished all planets on Casual

Man, what a game. Twin stick shooter arcade to perfection.

They made some fundemantel changes from the PS3 version. Like there are only ice and lava rocks but the weapons you use are more important in their damage. If you use ice crusher on a lava rock, it's going to take you at least double the time to break it. It also takes longer to upgrade the two weapons.

The pick ups have improved and you get one of my favourites, weapon overcharge, which puts your weapons into overchaarge for a few seconds. Also if you were wondering what 'stardust' was, this game rocks drop tiny green orbs you collect to fill a meter on the bottom right which gives you an item like overcharged weapons, shield, special etc.

And special you have a black hole, which well, creates a black hole and sucks rocks into it and rockets that shoot 360 homing rockets that hit everything that isn't you. Along with your trusty bomb. An interesting spin to this mechanic is you only have one counter for all specials so any three of those you use takes away from one special counter.
Specials are gathered same way, by destroying the space ship. But most of the time it only gives you one special, instead of the guaranteed two bombs of the last game.

So this game is on VITA. How does it use it? Smartly. Simple back panel touch to launch the black hole, tap screen for rockets and a quick up and down shake for the bomb. This is actually very clever because when you are in a sticky situation, that's a very natural thing to do so it helps the bomb activates that way.

A very superbly solid game improved over it's PS3 brother by being more simple yet more challenging at the same time. Kind of game design I admire and get addicted to dangerously.

Check the official thread for me, Kiwi and D3adCell's score chasing each other and join us!

One of my favourite franchises that looks and plays amazingly on the VITA;

9/10.
