2012.37: Torchlight II

Time to complete: 20hrs:16mins on Veteran

Wow, what a game. Two or three sets of weekends gone to this game and I didn't even notice. Truly one of those games that puts you in a trance.

I loved how it was designed. You have an area that you can full discover at your own pace. They have secrets, side quests etc and the game in no way what so ever rushes you or makes you go somewhere that is going to move on the story by accident. So there is this really nice tone where you take your time, discover the whole area, then when you are good and ready advance to the gold star (main quest).

The systems here are so perfect to make it as little pain in the arse as possible to loot. Inventory full? Give the items to your pet and he does a runner to town to sell your items bringing back the gold. You don't have to break your looting flow. Need health/mana/etc items? Well, your pet can buy those for you too when he makes his trip to town.
Or you want to do something in town your pet can't do. Like take a gem out of an item, enhance items or store stuff in your shared chest etc. No problem, just pop a portal down, use it to get back to town then after your errands are done there, hop into the portal in the town to get back to the one you laid down in the dungeon.

Just amazing. Nothing more satisfying than a game saying "hey look, we are not going to stand in the way of your fun". Same when you die. If you popped a portal down you can respawn back at town and use the portal to get back to your portal or if you forgot, no biggie, at a generous price you spawn back at the entrance of that dungeon.

Simply loved how little of a pain it was to loot and do inventory management and all that stuff. I know I went on about it a bit too much but in so many loot games they get all those wrong. This game nailed it.

The gameplay is action RPG at it's best. No complaints what so ever. Amount of skills, levelups for them is good to keep anyone happy I think and the fighting never started to feel dull in these 20 hours.

So if you are a fan of this genre, I don't see how you won't think this game is the best ever. It was for me anyway.

10/10.
