2011.30: Splinter Cell: Conviction

Completed on Realistic (Hard) in about 6-7 hours (very rough guesstimate)

I'm not going to go into "omg this is not splinter cell!!" kind of thing, I can 100% see what they were going for here, Bourne like modern day spy thing to keep with the times. But man was the execution lacklustre. The AI was dumb, the movement a little 'untidy', level design too generous, satisfaction of shooting or pulling off actions non-existent due to how easy the whole thing is, and so on.

I can't remember going "woah holy shit" at anything cool I've done, simply because the whole thing lacked immersion.

The interrogation bits were a nice idea, but it had it's frustrating bits where you think pressing the button next to something will do a cool action, but he ends up doing the default punches. They highlight everything for you in the game, surely they could have highlighted where the cool interrogation set pieces were in the environment.

This is modern day Ubisoft for me, they always have nice ideas, but they never do it properly. I just can't 'get with' their games.

Still, an OK little run through your usual conspiracy filled, enemy more powerful than god kind of story. Too bad whole thing lacked that bit of spark and polish in pretty much all aspects.

5/10.
